Uwais Al Qarni, Hamba yang Berbakti kepada Ibunya

Allah Ta'ala's love for Uwais Al Qarni resulted from his obedience to his mother, who was paralyzed. One day, Uwais Al Qarni asked his mother for permission to go to Medina so he could fulfill his longing to see Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam. His mother gave her permission, but on one condition: that Uwais Al Qarni return home immediately after meeting Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam because she was in poor health.

Uwais then went to the place where Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam lived. Upon arriving in Medina, he did not find Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam at home, Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam had gone off to war. Therefore, all he did was leave a message with Aisha Radhiyallahu'anha and then return home to see his mother.

In his small, worn-down house, Uwais Al Qarni said to his mother one day, "Nothing will ever come out of my mother’s mouth that I would not do as she wishes."

Some time passed, and Uwais Al Qarni’s mother was growing older. His mother said, "Oh, Uwais. I'm getting old." "If death were to come for me, there is a wish I would like to express."

"What is it, mother? "Tell me," he said curiously.

His mother then replied, "I want to perform Hajj, dear."

Uwais Al Qarni thought deeply about how to make that happen, even though they lived very far from the Holy Land and were extremely poor. However, Uwais Al Qarni did not give up. He trained himself to be able to carry his mother to the city of Mecca.

Uwais bought a calf that he carried up and down the mountain peak every day without stopping. Eight months later, Uwais had started to get stronger. He also agreed to his mother’s request to take her on the Hajj. He started carrying his mother on his back, traveling thousands of kilometers toward the Holy Land. Along the way, he remained resilient. He carried his mother with strength and resilience, thanks to the physical training he had done earlier. Upon arriving at the Holy Land, the mother was accompanied in performing seven circuits of Tawaf (walking in circles around Kaaba) until it was completed, and then she was taken to Maqam (feet imprint on a stone) of Prophet Ibrahim 'Alaihissalam.

Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, although he had never met Uwais Al Qarni, spoke very positively about him, as if he knew the poor young man very well. Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said to his other companions:

فَمَنْ لَقِيَهُ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ...

... Famal laqiyahu minkum falyastagfir lakum.

Translation: "... He who amongst you meets him should ask him to supplicate for forgiveness (from Allah) for you." (H.R. Muslim 2542).
